GET INVOLVED WITH PUBLIC HEALTH and TALHO!
TALHO is a non-profit (501 c 3) organization created to further members’ common goals, such as promoting health, preventing disease and protecting the environment. We work in multifaceted ways to support public health in the state of Texas through leadership, vision and advocacy. We are committed to the principles of public health practice in local communities and throughout the great state of Texas.
TALHO is active in many projects that need your help and support, including:
- The Janet Emerson Public Health Servant Award – This award is TALHO’s highest accolade for public health servants at the local level. This award also serves as a living memorial to Janet Emerson, who served her community as Chief Executive Director of the Waco McLennan County Public Health District from 1983 until medical retirement in 2004.
- The Texas Public Health Policy Forum – This biennial event was created to examine federal and state issues that impact the local public health system. It provides elected officials, public health officials and professionals, citizen advocacy groups, and community and business leaders an opportunity to discuss and debate issues resulting in timely public policy recommendations to improve the health of our citizens.
- Local Public Health Department “Quality Support and Improvement” – Through innovative grants and fundraising support, TALHO is a resource to LHDs across the state of Texas. From CDC contracts and projects, to DSHS partnerships and programs, as well as other innovative ideas for creating quality improvements to public health programs and practices, TALHO is a valuable resource for its members.
- TALHO Membership Meetings - Talho hosts Membership Meetings every other month. These meetings are a great place to get the latest information on the issues that affect Texas' local health departments. They also present a terrific opportunity to meet and talk to peers, and to hear what is going on at the state and federal levels.
If you have a program need or if you are seeking funds for a project, let us know. We are here to help you succeed! The TALHO Event Calendar is full of exciting projects and events that you and your organization can take part in. Together…we can make a difference to public health in Texas!
