Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, with occasional hours on nights and weekends for emergency response.

Job Description:

Inspect various locations, businesses and property for compliance with city ordinances and state laws. Perform a variety of environmental and consumer health inspections to protect the public from disease and injury in the local environment. This includes but is not limited to: food establishments, swimming pools and spas, health nuisances, childcare facilities, general sanitation, vector, control, and public health related complaints.

Enforce public health regulations by investigating complaints and issuing citations. Organize, prepare and present food safety courses. Have the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. As indicated in the duties above this position offers comprehensive duties and experiences in a variety of settings.

Excellent benefits include city vehicle, equipment, training and continuing education. All travel for training, credential and association fees are provided. Primarily works in climate controlled environments. May be exposed to communicable diseases, seasonal weather variations, noxious fumes and odors, and dirt and dust while at investigation sites.

Requirements: Drivers License: Valid Class C Texas DL

    Education:Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 approved Science hours is required to satisfy State of Texas Sanitarian registration (a copy of the transcript required at time of application).
    Experience:Six months to one year of inspection related experience is required.
    Certifications:No certifications required. Must have the ability to successfully obtain Sanitarian-in-training status within one year and complete all requirements for Sanitarian registration within two years from date of hire.
    Testing:No testing required.
    Physical Demands: Light
    Desired:Sanitarian registration desired. If an applicant does not have Sanitarian Registration, a Training Opportunity Reimbursement Agreement will be required.
